Podcaster Extraordinaire, Shawn Marek takes over the DC Comics Presents Show chair for this episode. (Shawn and I sort of tag team this one, as I will show up a little later in the show.) The League Of Regrettable Superheroes
You know about Batman, Superman, and Spiderman, but have you heard of Doll Man, Doctor Hormone, or Spider Queen? In The League of Regrettable Superheroes, you’ll meet one hundred of the strangest superheroes ever to see print, complete with backstories, vintage art, and colorful commentary. So prepare yourself for such not-ready-for-prime-time heroes as Bee Man (Batman, but with bees), the Clown (circus-themed crimebuster), the Eye (a giant, floating eyeball; just accept it), and many other oddballs and oddities. Justice League Of America #173
At Green Arrow’s recommendation, Black Lightning is considered as a prospective Justice League member but the other heroes disagree on his admittance. Meanwhile, a new super-villain surfaces in the person of The Regulator, a former research scientist who has the power to command armies of rats and other vermin. Unaware of the threat he poses, the Justice League continues with its test of Black Lightning’s abilities. Disguised as villains, they battle him while Superman serves as judge of his initiation. Although he passes the test, Black Lightning declines to join the team, claiming prior responsibilities to his solo career.

Famous 1st Edition (C-28)
Famous First Edition was a series of oversized reprints of original Golden Age comics. Famous First Edition reprinted the comics in their entirety, including any paid advertising and other features that appeared in the original. C-28 reprints Detective Comics #27, the legendary issue that introduced The Batman to the world. The first Batman story was titled “The Case Of The Chemical Syndicate” . In his first case, the Bat-Man investigates the murder of a chemical tycoon, discovering that one of his partners murdered him to steal the secret contracts that would leave him as the sole owner of the Apex Chemical Corporation. There are nine additional stories in this book featuring the characters: Speed Saunders, Buck Marshall, Bart Regan, Spy, Crimson Avenger, Bruce Nelson, Dr. Fu Manchu, Cosmo the Phantom of Disguise, Plain Clothes Pete, and Plain Clothes Pete.

Action Comics #355 (1967)
Biochemist Karl Keller has been imprisoned in a forced labor camp after criticizing his country’s leadership. Keller escapes after discovering some Kryptonian chemicals that when ingested give him an explosive punch. The scientist then comes to America where he becomes a boxer called the One Punch Kid. During one match, Superman disguises himself as Keller’s opponent and is surprised when a punch knocks him down. Later, Keller creates a costumed identity for himself called the Annihilator. He holds a grudge against Superman, since the Man of Steel did not free him from the labor camp. The Annihilator then becomes a super-villain and his punch is able to best Superman. The Man of Steel is forced to retreat in order to develop a strategy against his newest foe.
This time out, we’ll be getting into DC Comics Presents #31. We’ll start this episode with an email and some more talk about the Facebook page. I will be presenting the Spotlight for Superman’s Guest, Robin The Teen Wonder. Our “Whatever Happened To..?” segment will delve into the Golden Age Robotman where I will have a Spotlight Extra as well as the story itself. Episode 23 Superman & Doctor Fate

Superboy received a message from deep space from his Kryptonian father Jor-EL. Investigating, he discovers the bodies of Jor-EL and Lara in a space capsule surrounded by Kryptonite radiation. He is then pushed close to the capsule by Xonar, an old foe of his father. Superboy is rescued by Dr. Krylo, another Kryptonian and is taken to safety. Krylo explains that he was able to cryogenically preserve himself and Superboy’s parents even though Jor-EL did not want to be preserved. Superboy and Krylo then enlist the aid of Jonathan Kent to retrieve the capsule. Xonar strikes again to stop them, but Superboy fights him off. The villain then crashes into a space mine and is killed. Krylo exposes himself to the Kryptonite to save Jonathan. Superboy then takes the bodies of his parents back to Earth hoping to revive them. However, a recording inside the rocket explains that both Jor-EL and Lara were dying of radiation poisoning before they were placed into the rocket by Krylo. Reviving them would only lead to another painful death, so Superboy leaves their bodies in the rocket and returns it to deep space.

Episode 22 Superman & Captain Comet

The Maharajah of Sinsubhani brings Superman a rare alien jewel which is capable of great destructive force. Superman is unable to destroy the jewel, and the evil organization known as Demon seeks to possess it. Superman protects the jewel from Demon despite several attacks from their forces. When Demon holds Lois and Jimmy hostage, he allows himself to be captured. Superman is brought before the leader of Demon and forced to turn over the jewel. Fortunately the leader is an imposter. It is really Prince Krishna, the son of the Maharajah. Krishna has discovered the way to destroy the jewel and does so. He had infiltrated Demon solely for that purpose. With the jewel destroyed, Lois and Jimmy are released.

Finally..Episode #1 is released. I know that it’s been a long time in coming, but it’s finally here! I hope you enjoy it. This episode, I discuss DC Comics Presents #1 with Superman teaming up with The Flash.
