I have reclaimed the podcasting chair for another episode. Today, we will be going through DC Comics Presents #91. The episode begins with some Listener Feedback, followed by everyone’s favorite segment, Russell’s Comic Brag. (OK…I might be exaggerating!) Next, a Spotlight on Superman‘s Guest, Captain Comet. (It will be an old Spotlight with a little bit of new material added) After that, we’ll get into our issue; DC Comics Presents #91. The show closes with a trip to the Comic Spinner Rack.

Even though Captain Comet was one of the more obscure heroes of the DC universe, I always enjoyed his appearances, and this was no exception. Oddly, although I’ve never been a fan of the villain Brain Storm, he seemed an appropriate opponent for Captain Comet here. I noted your mention of Clark’s putting his hat on a “statue” in his apartment. I wonder if this was the bust he often called “Sam”. In the George Reeves Adventures of Superman TV series, there was such a bust in Clark’s apartment, where he’d put his hat when he came in, and, at some point, writers of the comics put that bust into Clark’s apartment, as an “homage” to that element of the TV show.
I can understand, though, your lesser enthusiasm for some of the stories late in the run of DC Comics Presents. They seem a bit more unfocused, and generally not as well-written as some of the ones early in the run. I wonder if that’s because of the Crisis on Infinite Earths event that was taking much of the focus and attention of the writers, artists, and editors at DC at this time. Just my opinion.
