Episode #28 (Superman & Supergirl)
This time out, we’ll be getting into DC Comics Presents #28. I will be presenting the Spotlight for Superman’s Guest, Kara Zor-EL aka Supergirl. Our “Whatever Happened To..?” segment will delve into Johnny Thunder where I will have a Spotlight Extra as well as the story itself. Finally, we will take a trip to the Comic Spinner Rack.

Welcome back (Good use of the “Welcome Back, Kotter” theme, by the way)! A fun episode for your return. I’ve always been a fan of the classic Silver and Bronze Age Supergirl, so it was good to remember this story. I wonder if Mongul’s alien physiology allowed him to survive a “massive cerebral hemorrhage” better than an ordinary human would. Certainly, we’ve seen him go toe-to-toe with Superman and other super-powered heroes in later stories. In any case, he’s too good a villain to be “finished” too soon. The “Whatever Happened to Johnny Thunder” story was a bit of a surprise. Hearing the name “Johnny Thunder”, my first thought would have been the Earth-2 crew cut blonde bow-tied fellow who controlled the mystic “Thunderbolt” by using the magic word “Cei-U!” (Say You!). I suppose THAT Johnny Thunder had enough (at the time) recent exposure due to the annual JLA/JSA crossovers, and the All-Star Comics revival in the 1970s.
